Panda Peeks – รีวิว Audrey Cafe & Bistro Bangkok

A breezy stroll through Thonglor takes me to a restaurant that looks more like home, and reminiscent of the classic movie almost every woman loves, ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, which I found out, was also an inspiration to their interior design. This is probably the perfect Sunday place to gather my friends and dress up in our dainty white dresses, and white gloves! No? Okay, let me snap back to reality.

Take a look at their clean French vintage interior covered in whites, grays, and desaturated pastels. There’s a sophisticated but casual vibe in it, which makes it a perfect laid-back lunch or dinner spot. Now imagine this, while the smell of the Thai-Western fusion food invites you further inside. Mmmmm.

The founder of Audrey’s, Janista Lewchalermvong or Khun Bam, being both a passionate cook and an interior decorator, had the vision to open a restaurant where she could re-create and share the hospitable experience that guests at her residence. She wanted her customers to be able to enjoy a warm and cosy setting, where they could spend quality time together enjoying great food from her childhood.

All of these sounded very convincing, and all the more made me hungry and curious. I ordered their Crispy Pork Cubes to start with. This dish takes a whole 5 hours of braising, then fried after, served with purple Yam on the side. A very interesting combination, and it works well!

Next I was served their Grilled Marinated Pork Wrapped in White Noodle. It’s not bad at all, especially when dipped with the mildly spicy sauce that brings in that extra kick.

For my main dish I had an order of their Spaghetti Spicy Dry Chili with River Prawns. It might not look much, and might not be enough if your order this dish solely, however when paired with their other yummy appetizers, this can definitely be more than enough. The river prawn is cooked perfectly in such a way that it’s rather easy to peel off the shell, while the flavor remains inside its tender seafood flesh. Not too oily, not too powerful, and definitely tastes as good as it looks.

Allow me to now take you to heaven – the dessert heaven that is! To finish off my lunch, I rewarded myself with a tempting Thai Tea Crepe Cake. The layers of crepe were as soft as a pillow with a perfect texture. This tasted so, so good I felt I could have 12 more orders of this. Well, I’m guessing there are no skinny jeans in dessert heaven.

This is a remarkable example of a Thai fusion dining experience from a Thai perspective enjoyed in a very pleasant and agreeable colonial style environment. Give Audrey’s a try and let us know how your experience went!
