Panda Peeks – Bourbon Street

One of the most mentioned casual pubs around Ekkamai is Bourbon Street. With a cozy bar almost hidden and separated from the surrounding dining tables, this has long been one of the places where groups of friends gather after work. The idea of a simple dinner, comfortably followed by a round of drinks with friends, is always a good way to cap off a long day.

Bourbon Street is located in Ekkamai but is also conveniently located near Sukhumvit road, so you can get here easily by walking around 5-6 minutes from the BTS.

We entered the restaurant during lunch time, and while the ground floor was almost empty, the 2nd floor was nearly packed. I took a look at their menu while I was seated. It was pretty hard to choose from all the appetizing dishes they serve!

Luckily, I got here with recommendations from the restaurant owner. They were proud that their New Orleans-style of cooking has been a long-time favorite. Not long after I was seated, I was served my first dish.

Let’s dig in!

This is Bourbon Street’s Crabmeat Avocado Salad. For THB 267, the amount of crabmeat and avocado served with this dish definitely nowhere near little! Being excited, I immediately poked my fork onto the salad and began my taste test.

The ingredients were fresh, however, I found that the salad dressing was too sweet for my liking, but I know some of you prefer a sweeter salad dressing option like this.

Shortly after, I was served their Jambalaya with Chicken & Andouille Sausage. This is a hearty serving, and yes, it also does look appetizing! I can see the tomato and red pepper bits in the rice, as well as the pulled chicken bits mixed in. The sliced Andouille sausage is then topped on the rice, served with steamed zucchini and a Bourbon Street homemade cornbread on the side.

The rice is very flavorful, with a sweet-spicy taste. The slightly spicy sausage slices are a perfect combination to this. The owner shared with us that her husband likes this so much, he requests for this almost everyday!

Next up was the Andouille Sausage Plate. This dish serves exactly the same type of sausage as the previous dish, however, this is served with 2 pieces in full-size. This sausage plate is partnered with a french mustard dressing, mashed potatoes and a small serving of salad.

Personally, I love the way they make their mashed potatoes. I’ve observed that the texture is made really creamy and is seasoned with just the right amount of saltiness. Combined with the Andouille sausage and the french mustard dressing, this is a dish I would recommend you to try for your next breakfast meal.

While enjoying my sausage plate, I was also served their Cajun Popcorn Shrimp. These are skinned shrimp bits delicately deep-fried in a special spicy batter, and then served with their tangy-sweet Tiger sauce. Bourbon Street claims that this tastes so good, you’ll want to eat it as fast as you would a bucket of popcorn!

I munched on this while reading an article online, and indeed, I finished the plate in less than 10 minutes.

There’s nothing like a good dessert to cap off my lunch. I ordered the Banana Foster, which are full bananas sauteed in butter, brown sugar & cinnamon, flambéed with banana liqueur & Rum, and finally served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I loved this and I would highly recommend that you try this dessert on your next visit to Bourbon Street!
