Top of the Town – American Dishes

All-time American staples

Celebrating this week’s American Week, we’re giving you a run-through of some of the best American food in Bangkok that most of us have always craved for at some point. (Admit it..)

Join us today as we try different restaurants offering American dishes and find out which claims the top spots!

1 | Uncle Jeff

Starting off our list are burgers, what else? Whoever said burgers are unhealthy and fatty has never met Uncle Jeff’s Whole Wheat Prawn Burger. This might be a huge switch from the usual meat patty, but trust us, it’s worth it.

This burger is made from prawns, prawn fillets, cheese, onion, lettuce, and dressed with black pepper mayonnaise. The ingredients may sound typical but you’ll know why we’re putting this on the list once you taste it. Ingredients go well together, especially with the black pepper mayo! It’s a massive burger, so make sure you have enough room in your stomach!

2 | The New Yorker Cafe

Reuben sandwiches, anyone? A classic American sandwich, the Reuben sandwich is traditionally made up of corned beef, swiss cheese and sauerkraut, all grilled between slices of rye bread.

The New Yorker Cafe brings us this Classic Reuben sandwich, made from thin slices of pastrami on rye bread with added sauerkraut and melted Swiss cheese. Your hunt for a good Reuben sandwich is over, we tried this and got a thumbs up from all of us.

3| Jools Bar & Restaurant

Lovers of fish n’ chips, rejoice! We found one of the best in Bangkok! There’s really nothing much to say about it, but, who knew a dish so simple could taste so satisfyingly good?

There’s nothing neither overly greasy here, nor having our fish n’ chips taste like it was deep-fried in a cooking oil used 80 times. Fish is tender and juicy, and the chips are, I would say, the best I’ve tried in a while! Try it for yourself and you’ll know what I mean.

4 | Subway

What could be more American than a, not 6, but a 12-inch sandwich? For a girl like me, I love challenging myself to finish my footlong sandwiches, and indeed I do. It has a certain satisfying taste that I can’t really put into words. I’m sure most of you have tried Subway, but if you haven’t, you have got to try today!

Our pick is the 12-inch Steak and Cheese. Slices of seasoned beef steak with onion and green peppers – a surprisingly hot delight. You can pick any sauce from their range, but this one tastes great with the Southwest Sauce. Give it a go and challenge yourself as well!

5 | Great American Rib

Nobody gets tired of buffalo wings, is there? If you’re like our team who loves buffalo wings while watching late-night football games, you’re in for a treat.

Aside from their great selection of ribs, you can try Great American Rib’s Original Buffalo Wings. These are crispy chicken wings tossed in an addictive cayenne pepper sauce, served with the classic garnish of celery and blue cheese dressing. You have a choice between medium, hot or ‘atomic’ sauce. No regrets finishing this plate on my own!
